How to Apply
What is required for WRC Scholarships?
- A profile and application with all required materials in Academic Works
- A minimum GPA as determined by the specific scholarship
- Utah resident status (per Policy 6-403)
- Matriculated student status at The University of Utah, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree
- Established financial need (for some scholarships)
What should I keep in mind?
- Start early. We advise students to start their scholarship research and application process one year before they actually need the money. In general, most University scholarship applications go live in the winter/spring (December - March) and are for the upcoming school year that begins in the fall.
- Write a compelling personal statement. A personal statement is a short essay about yourself, your life experiences, and how
these experiences have inspired you to apply for the scholarship. For WRC scholarships,
we require applicants to respond to the topics listed below. Be concise and limit your responses to a total of 500 words. Please do not include details which you have already shared in your U of U general
application as these will be available to us when you submit this application.

Include attention to what is motivating you and actions you’ve taken, or plan to take, to accomplish these
- Conclude by commenting on how a WRC scholarship would help you to continue your education and achieve your goals

- Ask for a letter of recommendation. A letter of recommendation is required for our scholarships and should speak to your qualities, characteristics, and academic promise. They are usually written by a professor, employer, or someone who can speak to your academic and/or professional work. You should give your recommender at least 2 weeks' notice. Letters of recommendation should be uploaded by the recommender through AcademicWorks.
- Check out other scholarship opportunities. The University of Utah has many scholarships available to current students. These scholarships span a wide variety of academic programs and research pursuits, as well as merit, diversity, and leadership-based opportunities. There are also scholarships available that are based on financial need. The University recently consolidated university scholarship opportunities to one easy to navigate portal, AcademicWorks.

- Fast Web is a leading scholarship search service which helps students make the decisions related to choosing and paying for college.
- Scholarships are available for non-traditional students, or students who fall outside of the 18-24 year-old range.
