Commitment to Empowerment and Social Justice

The Graduate Training Program in Feminist Multicultural Counseling allows students to become immersed in both the relevant theories and practices of feminist multicultural counseling. The practicum counselors are selected from the fields of counseling, psychology and social work graduate programs.

  • Applications accepted from advanced graduate students in counseling, social work, & psychology.  Applications are generally available December through mid February.  
  • Immersion in feminist multicultural counseling theory and practice
  • Offers credit for 20 – 30 hour per week field practicum or clinical internship
  • Individual & group counseling & supervision, programming, social justice outreach, activism & education
  • Analysis and incorporation of issues of privilege and power, diverse and marginalized identities, and personal/interpersonal/socio-political dimensions of empowerment

  •  Completion of a one-year supervised practicum, internship, or fieldwork experience.
  • Feminist Multicultural Therapy, EDPS 7240, taught 1st summer session, T/Th, 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
  • Graduate course in Multicultural Counseling, or equivalents (this could include documentation of lived experience).
  • Commitment to one full academic year at the WRC beginning Fall Semester.
  • Availability during the academic year for required meetings, seminars, and supervisions on Tuesdays, 8 am to 12:30 pm and on Wednesdays from 8 am to 12:30 pm.
  • Submit application materials to the WRC before 5:00 pm on February 10th.
  • 40-hour sexual assault advocacy training with Utah Coalition against Sexual Assault (UCASA). The WRC sponsors this training for our practicum students and interns.
