Community Advisory Board - Ambassadors

The University of Utah Women’s Resource Center Community Advisory Board supports the overarching mission of the WRC by proactively implementing initiatives that encourage success in higher education.  With a primary focus on women, the Board invests in programs dedicated to creating community awareness of the WRC and its initiatives, building relationships for WRC participants through mentorship and connectivity, and advancing the idea of “paying it forward” to the next generation.

Deborah Speed

Board Chair: 2016 - Present

Deborah SpeedDeborah Speed accepted the position as Chair of the WRC Board in January 2016. She currently works for Zions Bank as the Economics and Public Policy Coordinator where she researches and reports on local and national trends that affect the economy and influence the decisions of policy makers.   Full Bio

Kimberly A. Hall

Board Vice-Chair: 2010 - Present

Kim Hall ImageKim Hall has been with the University of Utah for 15 years. First as adjunct faculty, and then 13 years with the Women’s Resource Center (WRC). Initially, Kim was the program coordinator, originating the Go Girlz Community Initiative and the Sponsored Student Program (U START) among other pieces of community and campus programming.  Full Bio

Allison Barlow

Board Ambassador: 2017 - Present

Allison BarlowAllison Barlow enjoys a career in Human Resources which allows her the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life.  She began her HR career with O.C. Tanner, working her way to become the Director of Individual and Organizational Development. She helped open the U of U South Jordan Health Care Center as the Director of Exceptional Patient Care. Working for the LDS Church, she helped launch domestically and internationally an executive leadership bench strength/succession planning initiative that focused on experience based learning.  Full Bio

Madeleine Bell

Board Student Ambassador: 2017 - Present

Madeleine BellMaddie is a senior earning her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Minor in Family and Consumer Science at the University of Utah. She currently works for The Bennion Center as a site team leader for their program Utah Reads. Maddie loves that Utah Reads allows her to share her love for reading with the wonderful students she has had the privilege to tutor. She believes that reading is a gateway to many exciting opportunities and adventures. Full Bio

Mary Anne Berzins

Mary Anne BerzinsMary Anne Berzins, MBA, FCIPD, SPHR-SCP is Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, at the University of Utah, with responsibility for organization and employee development, including leadership development programs for faculty, staff and post docs. Full Bio

Sean Crotty

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Sean CrottySean Crotty is a project specialist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His career with the CDC began in Cambodia in 2013 where he connected with the organization during his service as a Peace Corps Volunteer and Volunteer Leader for the Community Health Extension program. Kirstin Maanum

Board Ambassador: 2017 - Present

Kirstin Maanum Kirstin Maanum is the Women’s Education Specialist through the Women’s Enrollment Initiative at the University of Utah.  She is originally from Minnesota and received her BA in Psychology from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Her early professional years were spent working with social justice organizations along the US/Mexico border in El Paso, TX,  Juarez, MX., and Anthony, NM. She earned her Master of Public Health from New Mexico State University in 2009. Full Bio

Jean Oh

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Jean Oh ImageJean Oh is the Director of Main Campus Operations for the University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC) in S. Korea. The UAC is a University of Utah initiative out of the Office for Global Engagement. Currently there are four University of Utah degree programs being offered at the UAC. Prior to her move to Utah in 2013, she lived and worked for two years at the Incheon Global Campus, where the UAC is located. In her role, she supports various departments and faculty at the University of Utah in applying for and establishing degree and certificate programs at the U Asia Campus. Full Bio

Jennifer Pennington

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Jennifer PenningtonJennifer Pennington is a Corporate Foundation Relations Coordinator with the University of Utah.  In this role, she manages the University of Utah’s limited call calendar process for local corporations and family foundations, edits grant proposals from across campus and assists in writing the quarterly Central Development Office’s newsletter: IMPACT. Jennifer del Rosario Reid

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Jennifer Reid ImageJennifer del Rosario Reid is a development manager at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Utah/Idaho Chapter. Prior to joining CFF, she worked as marketing manager at Red Sky Solutions; at KSL Broadcast Group, serving in various positions for KSL 5 TV for over 13 years, including as community producer, marketing coordinator, social media manager, and video editor; and as community relations manager for KSL 5 TV, KSL NewsRadio, FM100.3, and 103.5 The Arrow. Full Bio

Kiska Schramm

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Kiska SchrammKiska grew up loving classical music. In High School her mother remarked, “You are the only person I know of, who blares Beethoven on their car stereo, so I have no doubt as to when you come home.” She began violin lessons at the age of six. Growing up, she participated in summer music camps such as Interlochen and toured Europe several times with groups such as the Rocky Mountain String Camerata and the BYU Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Jennifer Stagg

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Jennifer StaggJennifer Stagg is a veteran journalist, blogger, designer, wife, and mother.  As a television anchor and reporter, she was twice awarded Best Reporter in Utah by the Society of Professional Journalists.  She has won two Emmy awards as well as three Edward R. Sara Stanley Urquhart

Board Ambassador: 2016 - Present

Sara S UrquhartSara Stanley Urquhart runs an eponymous consulting business. She sits on the Salt Lake City Planning Commission and board of directors for the Women’s Resource Center at the University of Utah. Sara was the founding director of Altitude Summit (2009-16) and the founding board president of the St. George Family Support Center (2007-09). She was a member and board chair of the St. George Art Around the Corner Foundation (1998-2009).  Full Bio.  

Virginia Kelson

Jinnah Kelson ImageJinnah Kelson has been an organization development and training professional for over 20 years, and is a Partner and Senior Consultant of Ralston Consulting Group.  She was the Founder and Executive Director of the Phoenix Institute as well as the Founder and Chair of the Board of Directors of Webster Publishing. Debra Daniels

Debra Daniels ImageDebra Daniels is the Assistant Vice President for Women’s Enrollment Initiatives and Director of the Women's Resource Center at The University of Utah and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Theresa Martinez

Theresa Martinez ImageTheresa Martinez completed her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of New Mexico and is currently Associate Professor of Sociology and former Assistant Vice President for Academic Outreach at the University of Utah.  Her teaching and research deal with issues of race, class and gender, deviant behavior, juvenile delinquency, and pop culture, and she has produced articles for a variety of publications. William Smith

William Smith ImageWilliam A. Smith is an associate professor in the department of Education, Culture & Society and the Ethnic Studies Program at the University of Utah. He has previously served as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Access, & Equity in the College of Education as well as the Special Assistant to the President & NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative at the University of Utah. Dr. Smith is the co-editor (with Philip Altbach & Kofi Lomotey) of the book, The Racial Crisis in American Higher Education: The Continuing Challenges for the 21st Century (2002). Full Bio

Elizabeth Southwell

Elizabeth Southwell ImageElizabeth Southwell received her B.F.A. in Film from the University of Utah in 1994. She began her career at the PBS affiliate KUED Channel 7 moving up the ladder and becoming a producer in 2007.  Elizabeth created a weekly public affairs program Utah NOW that garnered the highest honors from the Utah Broadcaster’s Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Academy of Television Arts and Science.
